So give me a couple of days and everything will be
As a result of the new BT FAQ, I'm forced to rewrite whole sections of my website (for this, I'll fight through my illness. Including parts of the BT 101 guide. I'm mostly done updating my current "Big Three" army lists, but new ones might be on the horizon. ;)

Wow. Games Workshop updated our BT codex with a new FAQ. With some real changes and clarifications that needed to be addressed. Some of which are going to massively change the way my armies work. Looks like I'm just going to have to grin and bear the sickness for a while to rifle through my site to update the appropriate stuff.
I'll try to keep a list of changed items and I'll do indepth into our BT FAQ one of these days to give you a view on the impact it has on our gameplay. Very important changes here. Busy few days ahead of me here. :O What this does mean, however, is the rumors of a BT update might be further off than previously assumed. They wouldn't have given us a FAQ update if they were just planning on re-releasing the codex. :/ I don't know what I caught, but a couple days ago I started feeling not-so-hot. Nevertheless, I worked through it and plugged late into the night on stuff for Implausible Nature and my painting project. Now I'm regretting it, as I got whatever this is full force. Barely was able to leave bed today and I really am not feeling all that great.
With that being said, I don't know how much I'll be posting/painting until I get over this. It's really cutting into my painting time, but maybe I'll be able to pick up my brushes tomorrow. You'll probably see a couple of blog posts crop up, but they were already finished a few days back and it simply takes a couple of secs to hit the "Publish Live" button. See ya'll hopefully soon. :( Email: Marshal Laeroth,
Simply because I have no idea how else I would introduce myself, my name is David. I’ve been collecting BT (and Thousand Sons as well, simply because they look amazing) for a while now, and I’m about to play my first tournament this coming Saturday. I think I’ve put together a pretty good list based on much of what I have read on your website, but I was looking for some feedback before I go get my proverbial ass kicked this weekend. I have no experience fighting competitive lists from any army at all, and my casual games consist of CSM, Nids, and IG. Anyway, here’s the list. HQ: Emperor’s Champion w/ AAC (140) Elite: Venerable Dreadnought (Tank Hunter, TL LC, Missile Launcher, Smoke Launchers) (168) Troops: Crusader Squad (7 BP& CCW, 1 MG, 1 PF), in Rhino w/ Smoke Launchers (222) Crusader Squad (7 BP&CCW, 1 Flamer, 1 PF) in Rhino w/ Smoke Launchers (218) Crusader Squad (3 Bolters, 1 Plasma, 1 Missile Launcher) (96) Fast Attack: Land Speeder w/ MM and HF (75) Land Speeder w/ MM and HF (75) Heavy Support: Predator Destructor w/ Lascannon Sponsons and Smoke Launchers (128) Predator Destructor w/ Lascannon Sponsons and Smoke Launchers (128) Total: 1250 This tournament is known as the Contest of Champions at the local game store, and is an escalation tourney that runs every other month, increasing the army list 250 pts at a time (the next is in March at 1500 pts, May at 1750, etc). I would love some help with the list if you have the time. Thanks a ton, the website is awesome. Sincerely, David As you might have seen in the previous post, I had gotten an email to help building a 750 point list with the BT. It provided me with an unique challenge, as I'm not entirely in tune with the game play involving such a low limit. Everything you do is amplified a hundred-fold and mistakes are often fatal. In addition to having a set list of miniatures to use, I had to make the list as fun as possible for the player. While I'm happy to report they had a great time using it, I was guessing. I have no idea what people will find fun to play, so I took clues from their original list to help me. It just so happened I guessed close enough.
But the whole thing got me wondering: How would I go about doing it without restrictions? I don't have the problem of not having a certain configuration of model, as I've been collecting for 10 years. There is a real good chance I have everything I would ever need. The list also needed to be enjoyable to play. And on that same vein, I want to be able to win. That is sometimes difficult for the Black Templars below 1250 points, as they are so expensive. Email: Hey Laeroth (Bob),
I've gotten no less than 3 emails and a couple of Facebook messages recommending your blog via various real and/or internet friends. Rites of Battle also gets sent my way pretty frequently. I am always glad of it, because my friends are truly generous, trying to help me make the best possible army and actually HAVE FUN playing. Anyway, I wanted to see if you'd be willing to look over my list. It kind of stinks to me, but I'm doing the best I can with 1) what I have and 2) a LOW 750 points. If you don't mind, I would send an email with the list... Thanks for all you do! Reply: Hello! I cannot be sure who your friends are, but let them know I appreciate their vote of confidence. I'm more than happy to help you as best as I can. Feel free to send the list. As I've mentioned before, I normally go for functionality over fluff, but that doesn't mean I don't have fun playing my armies. So if I know what type of list you're trying to build (your preferences, restrictions, likes/dislikes, etc), I'm pretty sure I can help you whip something up that you'll enjoy playing, while still being as good an army as we can get. :D Well, my Kansas City Chiefs lost today in football (American for all you Internationals). Makes me grumpy-sauce. Played an awesome first half, but stunk up the joint in the second. Got to give props to the Ravens though, they deserved to win that game. Can't have 4 turnovers in the second half and expect to win.
I need a beer, or twenty. >:( EDITORS NOTE: So, apparently this didn't post on Thursday like it was supposed to. Very odd. I suppose its not a huge deal though.
So for this Hobby Thursday, I just wanted to focus on the work that I've done for my "A Crusade in 61 Days" project. I'm off to a pretty good start in my opinion, though I did hit a rough patch the past few days due to work obligations. That seriously cut into my painting time. Nevertheless, I'll have almost finished a Rhino and completely finished one Dreadnought in only 7 days. I'm not going to complain. :) Here is what is done thus far. Been posting quite a few things in the last few days. I'm sure ya'll don't mind...too much. I still have Hobby Thursdays to do tonight and it'll fill you in on what I've been up to in the painting challenge. :)
First order of business: This month's updates should be finished tomorrow evening. I have the DE codex review going in a Word doc that needs to be transferred, as well as a closer look at my Mechanized BT army. The DE vs BT article was finished some time ago, but I forgot to mention it. You can find that on the same page as the previous one, below the list comparison article. Second, and possibly more important, as I mentioned in a previous blog post, Bigdunc allowed me to use his Black Templars Unit Guide here on Implausible Nature. I've now gotten those put up on the website and if you're a new player, I strongly encourage you to read them. You can find the index page for these articles here. There will be future additions as Bigdunc writes them up. ;) Lastly, I'm going to start playing significantly more games soon to get into the Nova Open mindset. That means I'll be playing my BT Gunline army nearly exclusively, so I can ensure I know everything there is to know about the list and how to use it. Not that I don't already know (considering I've played dozens of games with it), but more practice can never hurt. I really do want to place well at Nova to prove the Black Templars worth. That would really rock the boat for quite a few competitive players. And maybe bring a few new players our (Black Templars) way. Mike Brandt (MVB -- Tournament Organizer of Nova Open) has dubbed me Mr BT. I find it humorous. However, for such a flavorful army, I find it shameful that there was only one player that brought Black Templars to Nova Open 2010 (going to do an analysis on his list soon). While there are more balanced codices out there, we are plenty competitive and I plan to do my best to prove it. :D Con of the North 2011 is on the horizon! The 2011 event books are published and the list of games can also be found online at www.conofthenorth.org. This year Terrain Specialties is bringing back some traditional favorites as well as hosting several new events.
Con of the North 2011 (CotN) is being held February 18, 19 and 20 at the St. Paul East Holiday Inn. Events this year include the 10th anniversary 40K Rogue Trader Tournament (sponsored by The Source), the CotN Painting Contest, and various miniatures games and open gaming throughout the entire weekend. Miniatures systems being run include Warhammer 40K, Warhammer Fantasy, Battlefleet Gothic, Classic BattleTech, Lord of the Rings, War of the Rings, Uncharted Seas, Silent Death, Starship Troopers, Legends of the Old West, Legends of the Rising Sun, Gladiator Wars, Song of Blades & Heroes, Flying Lead, Fear and Faith, and many more. The events listed below are specifically those being run by the Terrain Specialties group. Additional miniatures events run by other judges appear in the events book and online. Pre-register for CotN by January 5th, 2011 and you can register for the entire weekend for $25. This cost includes entry into the Rogue Trader Tournament. And this year you can once again register, select your events, and pay online. Otherwise you can register onsite at the convention.
