Black Templars Leaks

5/31/2017

Today we got leaks for the Black Templars units.  Initial thoughts?  It'll be very nice for our army.  I'll do some more analysis in the next couple days, but for now...enjoy!

EDIT:  Now that the books have been released, I am taking down the leaks.  Enjoy 8th Edition!

Hey Laeroth. I haven't played since 6th edition and I haven't been following these leaks so I dont know all the new rules but the stats and abilities of Helbrect and EC looks insane.

So I understand all the faction rules are going to be in the core rule book? Or is this a leak from SM codex?

Also, I dont see options on the Crusaders for transports? Are these bought separately now or something?

Heya! Long time no see (well, besides on GW2). ;)

Yeah, there has been a huge change in the waters for both the rules, codices, and Games Workshop itself. GW is very social media active now, responding and taking account all of the input it receives. The players have had a hand in SEVERAL large scale rules changes and changes to armies in the past year or so due to GW's positive change in direction towards us. The 8th Edition rules seem to be more balanced, but directed towards making games much quicker. Things die VERY fast and its intended to be that way.

1) The core rules are actually separate from the army faction rules; while GW is releasing these rules in a large special book thing with fluff and all that, they are releasing the core rules for free on their website. There are also 5 faction books that are separate (for $25 each) that basically start everything at square one. Everything seems to be rebalanced and usable for all factions...finally. There is the Imperium 1/2 (SM and BT are in #1), Xenos 1/2, and Chaos.

2) From what most players can tell based on the leaks sent out (pretty much everything tbh), transports are no longer included as options for ANY unit due to how buffed they are gotten. They are their own unit purchased in their respective slots. Hell, transports actually fight in close combat now...and some of them are hella dangerous. So much more than I can type in a comment, but yes...transports are separate. Including the Land Raiders.

So looking at everything in a bit more depth, looks like Templars are the only marine faction that can bring a 5 man Tac squad with a Heavy, Special, and Combi (special #2) loadout. 3 firepower weapons per 5 marines seems really good. Am I reading this wrong?

As you probably well know by now, yes, the Crusader squad is far superior to the tactical squad. ;)
