Long time, no see everyone.  Over a month since my last post, but yet I'm still getting emails and several thousand hits a day.  I'm extremely surprised by that last.  To be honest, I was burned out.  Not from playing the game, I love 40k.  Though, I'll admit, I've not had the time to play either.  But it was mostly the pressure of feeling like I had to keep up putting out the content that I was.  That I had to maintain, update, and provide new stuff for everyone on a regular basis.  That I had to answer the equivalent of dozens of emails a day.  Time was non-existent for me for about 9 months prior to my month "LOA", which complicated some IRL things I needed to deal with.  The defeatist attitude many of my brethren have kind of brought me down as well.  It was a view that I simply did not agree with.  I didn't "enjoy" it anymore.

I needed a break; a vacation of sorts after Nova Open finished up.  Guild Wars 2 was the final nail in the coffin, as I've been spending at least some of my newly freed up time in there.  And I will continue to do so, because the game is excellent.  Just not as much, as I won't become an addict.  lol!

With that being said, its good to get my fingers moving again on the keyboard.  You can thank Algesan for that (email should be popped off to you tonight or tomorrow sir).  Let's hope it stays this way.  Lots of stuff to say and definitely things to update.  Implausible Nature is obsolete and that is unacceptable.  ;)

I want to finish up with me mentioning a return to how I previously did things in the beginning of IN's life.  I'm going back to my focus on competitive gaming.  That's what I do, that is what I'm good at.  My finish at Nova Open was sufficient proof to myself, and others, that this is the case.  While I won't be giving up the painting and hobby aspect of the website, I simply am not suited to making "competitive" fluffy lists...if such a thing currently exists for us.  I'm no asshole, so I'm not going to sit here and tell you that you're list is crap, but I will tell you what works or doesn't.

This website was also originally intended to be a tool to teach newer players about the BT army.  I wanted it to be a permanent source of current information, not reliant on blog posts.  So I'm going to be going back to that, so you'll notice a drop off on posts unless I'm feeling super motivated.  Sorry if this disappoints readers, but its just the way has to be.  In the end, I have to do all of this in a way that makes me enjoy it, so that a "product" is put out for you all.

He wasn't the only one. You're the only guy out there putting out good work on the Templars. I know I've been guilty as anyone about a negative attitude about the boys in black but I check this site constantly and I always appreciate your point of view. Heck, your'e the reason I stuck with the templars!

I shot you one back.

Heh, I've been as guilty as he was of taking a break. I'll inject a bit of an editorial here since the good Marshal has a better audience (and better website, even if it is in need of updating).

Yes, the Black Templar are currently the suck, relatively speaking. As far as I can tell, we are now the oldest codex and the 6th Edition FAQs were written/edited/approved by an illiterate monkey pulled off the street from the quality of them. Many of our core abilities that made us more functional got nerfed, although we did usually get some kind of replacement.

However, there are still useful builds and ways to play. I bailed out to Necrons for NOVA for a couple of reasons, not least of which was the amount of painting I was looking at having to do (a lot of it from scratch) compared to my Necrons being at least half done. There were several minor reasons, but after playing several games with BT primary and IG secondary, although they were fun, there was no "snap" to them.

The trick, as it was before when we went more "gunline" for competitive builds and before the upgrade FAQ, is to make do with what we have and learn to kick butt with it. This may mean leaning more on Allies or becoming the Ally for another codex list, but I think we can still function and win on the table.

Whine time is over, now it is time to adapt, improvise and overcome. If the thrill is gone, then swap to another codex for a while. Have some fun games, I expect to. I'm heading back into losing a lot of games for the next few months as I try new things. Ever thought about how nasty triple plasma biker squads can be? Or now that fielding a big Crusader squad is more viable in some ways, how about a Techmarine to lead it? Can a Drop Pod list still work?

Let's try to be constructive. If you have a list you want torn down, then post it on the forum. Several of us may comment on it. Post your silly little ideas up about how to build and use a unit. Tell us why it is viable and works well in the context of a Black Templar list. After all, that is what most bloggers do, they post their silly little ideas and some people find them useful.

I dont think people who come back here or invest in their hobby, in any shape or form are small or little. They shouldnt have to care if some people find them useful or others not.

I dont agree with trying to be constructive. I dont think it is empowering to people to feel their list is going to be torn down.

People do not need someone to tell them what is viable or whats not.

All that is important is that people, wherever they come from, whatever they are doing, feel happy and supported and that there is a place for them to suit them on the level they are on.

Clarification: Not "torn up", but "torn down" as when you take an engine (or other mechanical device) apart to examine the various parts with an eye to improving it.

We are half way through the BT tanks masterclass with good results, again slower due to things like work but we will get there soon. As soon as its done the way will open up to other people to join.

IN is more than a source of Templar knowledge, it represents integrity and in a world where, pretty much, people are self mutilating and a little hobby can be a difference, well, Laeroth if your not going to be around you should share the blog with some members to make posts.

We are here to back you.

This helps a ton as we are running a campaign at the moment on dow2elite.com where administrator roles are shared and other guys writes in the campaign scores and add new guys to the list.

Sure I know emails are another thing, again, make it specific that people should send this to the forum first so at least they can be heard and supported.

Glad you are going to focus on what works for you, one cant be everything to everyone. Best thing, like always, get up some basic bread and butter styles that people can build around and let them learn how they will.

People arent going to get better as people or gamers by doing everything right, we learn through losing, one cant rob people of that experience.

I dont even think you should spend energy on telling people whats right or wrong for them, let them figure it out themselves, be a guide, a mentor, besides, the best teacher is always inside.

Good to see you back in action. :)

I'm inspired to push forward with my Templars but it is always an uphill battle.

I think I've only managed 1 victory so far, almost every other game has been a close fought defeat (usually due to unlucky random game length).

My army is still a bit uncoordinated so hopefully I can pick up some fresh ideas here and get back on track.

Yo ML been wondering where you were but glad to see you back, if it is only for the moment.

I personally have been having trouble with my Templar's but it is mainly because I refuse to go gun line. Running an effective assault list in 6th edition is seemingly impossible at the moment. I currently have yet to attain a victory in 6th, but again its due to my stubbornness and not really any flaw in the design of our army.

A few tips I can issue out to people is speeders fielded in full squadrons are amazing now, like seriously amazing. Our CML termies still pack quite the punch, and have a look at those assault marines. You might not think HoW makes that big of a difference, but it really is amazing how effective it can be especially if you get a full 10 man squad into combat and gain its benefit!

Glad to have you back laeroth! I look forward to your updates.

Thanks for putting in so much of your time to help new players develop a love for the game. A veterans insight is invaluable.

Should you ever fall in battle, may the Chapter preserve your wisdom by interring your form into a dreadnought.
