THE NJESTA CRUSADE
The Pact of Crimson and Black
It began with a simple petition, but among the sons of Rogal Dorn, duty is never a light matter. The newly founded Crimson Tears Chapter possessed a mandate to secure a sector but lacked a sovereign homeworld. Conversely, the Black Templars under Marshal Laeroth—commanding a formidable force of 500 Initiates and Sword Brethren—were deep in a centuries-long campaign and desperately required fresh worlds from which to draw Neophytes.
Recognizing their shared genetic lineage and mutual necessity, Marshal Laeroth and Crimson Tears Chapter Master Stasius Kaius swore a blood oath of alliance. Together, they turned their righteous gaze toward the Njesta System.
The Purging of Njesta
For generations, the hive worlds of Njesta had known only terror. The vile xenos of the Drukhari raided at will, slipping through hidden Webway rifts to drag millions into the dark. The system's Planetary Defence Forces fought with fierce, desperate tenacity, and its sprawling industrial manufactorums bled resources just to survive. The arrival of the Adeptus Astartes changed everything. While the raw numbers of the Drukhari would have overwhelmed the nascent Crimson Tears alone, the combined might of the two chapters shattered the alien hold.
- The Iron Anvil: Utilizing the Black Templars’ heavy armored cohorts, Laeroth and Kaius launched massive, mechanized planetary assaults, sealing the Webway portals with continuous bombardments.
- The Spoils of War: With the Drukhari utterly purged, the Black Templars established recruitment keeps, drawing from Njesta’s battle-hardened PDF. In return, the Crusade’s massive Forge Ships assisted the Crimson Tears in erecting a magnificent, impenetrable Fortress-Monastery upon the primary hive world.
The Red Madness & The Dread Interred
The Fall of Cadia unleashed the Cicatrix Maledictum. The psychic shockwave of the Great Rift tore through the Njesta system, and a terrible madness gripped the Crimson Tears. Three-quarters of the Chapter fell to the whispers of the Dark Gods, turning their weapons upon the very people they had sworn to protect. Chapter Master Stasius Kaius remained unyielding. Commanding the loyal quarter of his Chapter, he launched a desperate internal war against his corrupted brothers. When Marshal Laeroth’s fleet raced back to the system, they found a warzone of unimaginable horror. With the immediate, wrathful blessing of High Marshal Helbrecht, Laeroth declared the Njesta Crusade—a war of total eradication.
The fighting was apocalyptic. The Crimson Tears were utterly destroyed, erased from the Imperium's rolls, but the cost was devastating. Not a single loyalist Crimson Tear survived the final battle—save for Kaius himself. In the shadow of the burning Fortress-Monastery, Kaius faced the Daemon Prince responsible for his Chapter's corruption. Though mortally wounded, his formidable willpower did not waver; with a final, roaring strike, he banished Malphas back to the Warp.
Impressed by a display of zeal that rivaled Sigismund himself, Marshal Laeroth refused to let Kaius die. The broken body of the last Crimson Tear was interred within one of the Crusade's most revered dreadnought chassis. Now an armored behemoth of destruction, Kaius walks the stars alongside the Black Templars, a living avatar of vengeance. With the traitorous Crimson Tears utterly annihilated and the system of Njesta scrubbed clean in a bath of bolter fire, promethium, and chainsword, the Black Templars did not rest. For the sons of Sigismund, a completed campaign is simply the prologue to the next. The immediate aftermath of the Njesta Scouring forced the Crusade to adapt, rebuild, and re-arm before launching themselves back into the dark universe.
The Iron Tithe and Fortification of Njesta
The system of Njesta was broken, its populations traumatized, and its primary Hive world scarred by civil war. However, its invaluable, highly industrious manufactorums remained largely intact. Marshal Laeroth recognized that the Crusade could not leave this vital engine of war vulnerable to another warp incursions or xenos raids.
- Establishing the Keeps: The Black Templars completely seized the ruins of the Crimson Tears' Fortress-Monastery. Instead of rebuilding it for a traditional Chapter, they converted it into a series of heavily fortified Black Templars Chapter Keeps.

The planet's manufactorums were re-tooled exclusively to produce heavy armor plating, chassis components, and munitions for the Crusade’s massive vehicle pool. Led by their Emperor’s Champion Lysanthir, and the Crusade’s Chaplains, the entire Black Templars force gathered for "The Rite of the Blood-Stained Veil". They did not march blindly. The minor human renegades who had fled the system after the death of the Daemon Prince Malphas left a psychic trail of bleeding worlds across the sector. Because the crusade is permanently deployed along the jagged edges of the Great Rift where the dark is thickest, the Emperor's light continues to guide Lysanthir, ensuring the Black Sword is never sheathed.
