As a side note, I think it's worth asking whether or not a Signum overrides the BS1 of a "Snap-Fire" shot against a Flyer.  One could argue that you don't know whether the SF takes precedence or Signum.  ;)

Do vows extend to allies?

You're a list making machine!

Unfortunately not, pretty much everything cool in each codex was FAQ'd to say it only affects things in that codex (Vows, IG Orders, etc).

However, Deathwing dudes are pretty nasty by themselves. They can shoot and kill with near equal ease. But the Vow choice is more for my Terminators and the nasty CC-biker squad I have chilling there. ;)

No Skyfire again, but.... I'd think about dropping one HQ. In this case, the Marshal. It doesn't state that the "Warlord" has to be the primary detachment HQ and then we have the EC as our primary's HQ and use the allied HQ for the "Warlord". In this case, what would you do with 195 points?

Actually, it does say that the Warlord has to be in the primary detachment (pg 109), so no allied Warlords. I had the same thought originally. :(

As for Skyfire, we have nothing in our codex with it. We COULD take the fortifications and take weaponry with that, I'm not sure that is the best option. I also considered Hydra's in early lists, but those got nerfed by not having Intercept. In the end, I did some number crunching and discovered that 8 AC's (per unit) still have a reasonably good chance of killing a Flyer/Flying MC. Add to the fact that they start in reserves, means that their impact on the game could be limited. But only playtesting will see for sure.

<sigh> I figured I was missing it on the allied Warlord.

That is why I'm looking at a fortification with gun upgrade to get both Skyfire and Interceptor. Well, I have yet another list roughed out in my head for just such a contingency, let me put it together and see what I come up with.

As for not having Interceptor, it shouldn't be that big a deal. Nice thing about Interceptor, the flyer can come in and you still get a full BS shot at it before it shoots unless it used a movement attack method like Bombing. I haven't read all the FAQs, have you seen any missile launchers being given the "Flakk" option?

I'm seeing several disconnects though with the new rules giving a variant weapon line from the various codices. Examples, our Cyclone/Typhoon and IG Heavy Stubber (AP6 in codex, AP- in rules). We may be wasting our time unless GW fixes that or, for us, MVB rules that the new FAQ modifies the codex as modified by the old FAQ.

I'm very wary of taking anything that has Skyfire, but not Interceptor (i.e. Hydras). The reason being? Flyers were somewhat rare to begin with, with a person having maybe one in a list (unless its was Vendettas). Any more, and that can get expensive, points-wise, very quickly. So if I took something that only legitimately affects Flyers, and my opponent has none, its basically a wasted unit.

On the other hand, if my opponent does bring one, and I don't have anything with Skyfire...having enough AT through good list building should mitigate the "Snap-Fire" disadvantage. Especially if you have a lot of shots (i.e. Autocannons, Assault Cannons, CMLs, etc). Twin-linked also goes a long way on this front to help out, though none of my lists make use of it. Once you hit, having Tank Hunters will help make sure that the shot is worthwhile. Note that if they use their evasion, they are effected by "Snap-Shot" themselves. Flyers aren't super-amazing by themselves either. They can't pivot after they move, they HAVE to move at least 18" each turn or they wreck (unless they can Hover), and they get stuck in reserves for the first part of the game. If they Hover, they are simply normal vehicles to kill.

Let's talk about what these things are. Stormravens? Blah. Vendettas? Decent. Valkyries? Blah. Stormtalons? Uber blah. The DE flyers? Overpriced. The Necron ones? Okay in certain builds. I'm not convinced that we should be afraid of the possibility of them being in our opponent's list. In my mind, its nice to have something deal with them, but they really aren't super-scary.

As for the Flakk Missile, no, I didn't see any FAQs with them being added in. Maybe an oversight? But it could also be a new unit coming (or the Stormtalon thingy has them)? It seems that GW accidently removed portions of the FAQs that were unnecessary to remove, hence reverting them to their previous terrible status (i.e. Typhoons).

Wait...what did they do to typhoons?

They removed the FAQ update to the Typhoon Missile Launchers. I would imagine by mistake, but since it is no longer in the FAQ, it reverts to the old rules. :(

Is that really true about Typhoons? :(
