Disturbing trend...

Weebly is kind enough to provide me with some detailed information in regards to who visits my website.  One of these includes showing me the search terms used to find my website.

There is one in particular that is getting quite common and its distressing to me:  "Black templars why play".  Its only been a couple days into the new month, but I've already had that come up several times.

This is a problem.  Not only is it a problem for our community, it might cause Games Workshop to trash our Chapter.  And THAT would be a very poor decision indeed.  Its not only in search engines where people's frustrations are coming out, it is on the forums as well.

In light of this, I think that I will be publishing an article on why the Black Templars are my army of choice.  Wouldn't trade them for any other codex out there.  I want to show my passion for the only chapter who is continuing the Emperor's wishes for a unified galaxy.  Perhaps this will show others why they are worth spending the time and energy on.

I'd actually disagree in your thinking that BT are bashed about. If you look at the blogpsphere you'll actually find a lot of people who love BT, play and win with them becuase they know how to win.

You need to take advantage of the things BT give you that no 5th ed codex does, like Tank Hunters on some squads, vows etc, and that makes it a far better codex than some that are waiting for a re-boot like DA

Don't get me wrong. There are a great many people who love the Black Templars, myself included. I also know how to win with every archetype of the Black Templars and try to show others how to do the same.

But if you Google Black Templars, you get page after page of threads/websites/articles that come up talking about how the BT are underpowered, no use playing them when you can play SW/BA, etc.

It is my goal to show people that there is something worthwhile in our out-dated codex, beyond the fluff. I don't necessarily think the BT are bashed at all, just that too many people (in my opinion) believe them to be not viable in competitive games. Which is a wrong assumption. It might not be a large number, but it is enough. :D

If nothing else, there have been several posts about it on different forums on the topic...so it gives me an excuse to show everyone why I chose this army over all of the others. ;)

I've found that Google Analytics is not as helpful as Statcounter, and neither seems to get the INTENT behind a search. An example: my good buddy can't keep bookmarks at his work computer but can read blogs (so weird). He's used at least 5 different terms to find my blog because he simply can't remember what works best.

BTW: I am super glad I found your site, as I am 1- a new player period, and 2- a new BT player.

Thanks for some serious awesome.

Yikes! You were up even later than I was last night Loquacious! That's pretty impressive. :)

I've used Google Analytics in the past, it wasn't for me. Weebly's Stats compilation is not as detailed, but it is much more accurate. Though, you are correct in that it doesn't show intent. It would be difficult for any stat counter to show that, as people would have to fill out a questionnaire every time they searched something. Impractical. Regardless, that search term is showing up with more and more frequency so I think it needs to be addressed. Even if that wasn't the original intent of the term. Perhaps it'll put some minds at ease. :D

Thanks for the compliment! The whole reason I built this site and continue to maintain it, is for players like yourself. I would much rather give new players with a paddle, than to leave them in a boat that goes where it pleases. Never hesitate to email me, comment on the blog, or whatever else if you have questions or need further explanations on something.

Yes, but am I showing up on a stat counter? I better not be, I'm showing three counters being blocked, including weebly.

I wouldn't sweat it because if you look at the search term you listed, it is close to the same one I used to find out about Black Templars. IIRC, I didn't find your site until I searched for Black Templar Tactica though.

"(Army X) why play" is actually a reasonable first search for new players.

How about battle reports instead of an essay?

Nah, don't worry. The stats are generic. :)

I'd actually love to do a battle report. I'm actively trying my best to facilitate one. This next Monday, I'm pretty sure I've arranged a game with someone whose willing to let me take photos. Oddly enough, most of my opponents dislike it when I do. I'll be using my gunline list verses whatever he wants to play. Likely Space Wolves, but possibly IG or Eldar.

I'm still going to post my "essay" though, just because it gives me something to write about in a time of lean pickings. :D
