Everyone needs a list right?

I've had time to go over both the 6th Edition rulebook and all of the FAQs, so naturally I wanted to start building lists!  Yes, I'm still going to be posting my thoughts on the new book and our FAQ, but that is going to have to wait a little while longer.  Wanted to get this down on "paper" before someone tries to claim it as theirs.  ;)

Anyway, here it is.  It's built for Nova Open 2012, which will be limiting its lists to 1999 points so there is no multiple detachment shenanigans.  In addition, I'll be making use of Space Marine allies in this force.

HQ:
* Marshal {Warlord} w/ Power Fist, Storm Shield, Terminator Honors, SM Bike, and Holy Orb of Antioch. [175]
* Captain {SM Allies} w/ Power Fist, Bolt Pistol, SM Bike, and Frag/Krak Grenades.  [160]
* Emperor's Champion w/ Black Sword, Bolt Pistol, Armor of Faith, and the Vow: "Abhor the Witch." [110]

Elites:
* Sword Brethren Terminators: 5 Terminators w/ 2 Assault Cannons, 3 Storm Bolters, 5 Power Fists, and Tank-Hunters. [255]
* Sword Brethren Terminators: 5 Terminators w/ 2 Assault Cannons, 3 Storm Bolters, 5 Power Fists, and Tank-Hunters. [255]

Troops:

* Crusader Squad: 5 Initiates w/ 3 Bolters, 1 Plasmagun & 1 Lascannon. [101]
* Crusader Squad: 5 Initiates w/ 3 Bolters, 1 Plasmagun & 1 Lascannon. [101]

* SM Bike Squad {SM Allies}: 7 Bikers w/ 2 Meltaguns, 5 Bolt Pistols, and Frag/Krak Grenades; 1 Sergeant w/ 1 Combi-Melta and Frag/Krak Grenades; 1 Attack Bike w/ Multi-Melta and Frag/Krak Grenades.  [295]
* SM Bike Squad {SM Allies}: 7 Bikers w/ 2 Meltaguns, 5 Bolt Pistols, and Frag/Krak Grenades; 1 Sergeant w/ 1 Combi-Melta and Frag/Krak Grenades; 1 Attack Bike w/ Multi-Melta and Frag/Krak Grenades.  [295]

Fast Attack:
* Stormtalon {SM Allies} w/ TL-Assault Cannons and TL-Lascannons.  [150]

Fortifications:
* Aegis Defense Line w/ 1 Quad-Gun.  [100]

Total Points:
[1999]

The idea is to have the IC's join the combat squaded bike units, to create two mobile melta units and two mobile counter-assault units.  The IC's will do the bulk of the damage in the assault phase, but they aren't designed to be hugely powerful in CC.  However, they can harass the flanks of your opponent's army and now have the durability (due to having a permanent T5 and "Jink") to survive hits.  Between these Biker units and the two Crusader squads camping home objectives, you'll have 6 Troops squads available to adapt to the changing battlefield.  The shooty squads will "hide" behind the Aegis Defense Line and keep the Quad-Gun firing throughout the game, while sitting on their objective.

In addition, the heavy hitters of the army list are the dual-AC terminator squads with tank hunters.  While TH changed in how it works, it also greatly improved it's chances to damage an enemy vehicle.  Re-rolling the armor penetration dice also gives you a greater chance to "proc" a rending roll.  Never a bad thing, especially when firing at higher AV vehicles.  The new edition is going to require huge torrents of fire to do damage, and these guys fit the bill perfectly.  Plus, with the added "durability" of 2+ armor (via Power Weapon nerfs), you can expect to see quite a bit of it on the board.  Between the high rate of fire and the rending, you'll have a good chance to kill a few in the shooting phase as well.  ;)

As was noted, the Aegis Defense Line is there to provide cover to my shooty squads.  The Quad-Gun will help ensure that Flyers/mech stay honest (though the Necron ones will still get through), but it can also be directed towards infantry as well.  To help in that role, we'll also be taking the Stormtalon Gunship.  This guy will definitely be useful for shooting down enemy flyers, but it's a little fragile so don't expect it to last super long.  Between the two, flyers shouldn't be much of a problem.

The list is pretty simple, but it'll work quite well in the new environment me-thinks.

I like it but have a couple of questions:
Why use space marine bikes instead of Templar bikes (just to get some more Sons of Dorne?)

Am I wrong that you have only 2 scoring units of 5 guys on foot? That seems incredibly vulnerable.

I took SM Bikes instead of the Templar bikes because a SM Captain on a Bike makes his SM bikers troops. So I filled the two Allied Troop slots with full biker squads and I intend to combat squad them, essentially giving me six troops squads. :)

So there should be 6 scoring units available in the list, 4 of which are insanely mobile. The 2 Crusader squads are more vulnerable than I'd like, but I simply couldn't find anymore points to give them a Neophyte each (or to upgrade to a Lascannon for that matter). :(

Well as long as those bikes are yellow...

I didn't know allies could score, that's really interesting.

Really the allies rules make me want to try to make a CC Templar army work again but that's probably a useless effort.

Oh, that is nifty. You can get the Lascannon on those squads by dropping the Marshal to a Castellan or cashing in their Pg.

Biggest glaring weakness? Lack of Skyfire. Whether it works out in the end or not, IMO we are going to see lots of armies at NOVA with multiple flyers.

@Nathan

That was the plan (Imperial Fists). :)

I would make an attempt at it. As much as I hate to be "that guy", our creed as Black Templars players over the years has been our ability to adapt to the changing rules. We've not gotten a new set of rules in a really long time. Going on 7 years now. But we've still managed to stay competitive.

Do our Templars pound face as well as they used to? No. But there are other ways to do it. All is certainly not lost. We KNEW army-wide Preferred Enemy would be going away, certainly when a new codex got released. Rage isn't terrible, even though its not as good as Preferred Enemy, it's still decent. Especially for units like TH/SS Terminators and our "new" bikers. But even then, "Abhor the Witch" wasn't bad before either. With the proliferation of psykers, the added movement will help dramatically.

@Algesan

Its not too terribly important, but the AP2 would have been nice. If GW does as planned, all Missile Launchers will be getting Flakk shots in the BRB FAQ, so that will help with my "Skyfire" needs. If they do this, I'll also strongly consider replacing the dual-AC's with dual-CMLs again. We'll see.

If they get around to FAQ'ing it in time, yes, otherwise, like you, I'll be putting up a lot of AssCans. Glad I took the time to magnetize all those arms.

On the lack of flyers, sure, there might be a money issue, but points? IG and SM, I agree, too many other useful choices, but for Necrons, that is one of the many alternate builds. For 990-1110 IIRC, you can field six MSU NW/NI squads in Night Scythes which would give six TL tesla destructors in the air with the added bonus of not having to take the wreck/explode hits on a crash on the passengers (although they will have to walk on the board in that case). Further, add in the fact that they have the ability to offload their troops even in Zoom mode. IMO, it is the best buy in a flyer around. Think mech spam in the air.

On the Hydras, I don't mind missing Interceptor because it gets mitigated somewhat by the fact that they can ignore Skimmer Jink and Flat Out saves. Oh, there is a question to be answered, it can only Snapshot a Skimmer (not a flyer) but can ignore its inherent save from maneuverability...
