FAQs for everybody! Even us Black Templars. :O

Wow.  Games Workshop updated our BT codex with a new FAQ.  With some real changes and clarifications that needed to be addressed.  Some of which are going to massively change the way my armies work.  Looks like I'm just going to have to grin and bear the sickness for a while to rifle through my site to update the appropriate stuff.

I'll try to keep a list of changed items and I'll do indepth into our BT FAQ one of these days to give you a view on the impact it has on our gameplay.  Very important changes here.  Busy few days ahead of me here.  :O

What this does mean, however, is the rumors of a BT update might be further off than previously assumed.  They wouldn't have given us a FAQ update if they were just planning on re-releasing the codex.  :/

I'll admit to being new to the game, so I don't see how much of an impact most of the changes will actually have. I'll wait for your analysis for that. But I don't see much that I'd call negative, whereas with a new codex I think I'd be worried about losing good things (2 specials for the termies comes to mind). So maybe its good that we got a FAQ and not a new codex. Still, I'm curious to see how it will change your lists, and if I should start shopping for new models.

I don't think it'll change much in the way of models too much. It WILL, however, change how you play your armies. I've got entire paragraphs in the BT 101 guide explaining how awesome our Smoke Launchers are...and now they are the middle of the road junk the newer codices have. So that has to be accounted for. Another one is that Righteous Zeal has been determined to NOT break 'Go to Ground', despite the previous rulebook FAQ ruling. Seems we're the special case scenario.

Storm Shield changes, as well as the Typhoon changes, were needed. They'll help out immensely. :)

Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch. Hmmm, wait a minute there. Most of the damage is actually against my lists. They made the SS the same as the regular SM one, but they nerfed the Combat Shield. <sigh>, I had a couple of nice assault units of Sword Brethren armed with 5++ Combat Shields, it was a bargain at 5 points. I'm glad as heck that I wasn't painting up the Castellan + Sword Brethren super squad for my 1k list! They are still in bits in my compartment box.

Our bonus cover save is now officially toast. I wish they had simply enforced RZ instead, but something really had to be done about the RAW Righteous Mild Enthusiasm.

Deathwind ML took a hit, not much of one against troops (since it was really only vs. Orks), but somewhat nasty vs light armor since that AP6 meant a normal roll on the vehicle table, but AP'-' gives a -1 to the damage roll. It wasn't much of an AT weapon, but that hurt. I might have to join Bigdunc on the other side with storm bolter drop pods and spending those points on real troops.

However, notice: LS-Typhoons just became more viable! As did the Cyclone for Terminators.

Big notice: They did a rewrite lots of places, including Drop Pod Assault, but didn't change the way our Pods hit the ground! Maybe we will get to stay the true pod specialists.

Where is my file of BT lists now...

Yeah, the combat shields got the shaft. As did the Deathwinds. That means I'm firmly in the camp to update the Defensive Drop Pod list to Bigdunc's variant.

I'm glad they didn't touch the Drop Pod rules themselves, I was worried that they might if they ever did a FAQ like this.

I did notice that the LS-Typhoons were better and have already made the changes to my Gunline list. The MM/HF variant is still better in Drop Pod and normal Mechanized lists.

The 5++ combat shield for 5 points made my fun little BP/CCW/CS/Term Honors/Furious Charge Sword Brethren squad with a Castellan leader kick arse.

Definitely better than a squad of Terms but clocking in at 34 pts each, I'd hope so. I'd lay some bets on them vs our Assault Terms for the same price too if they got the charge off.

Yep, the old Deathwind was a potential light vehicle popper and if you could get the template center on top of the vehicle, it was a flank armor shot. It made the pods potentially dangerous enough to a lot of models to warrant them drawing fire (instead of the Marines). Now, get something that can kill and let it plink with the storm bolter.

I'm not so sure on the MM/HF being necessarily "better". With a 48" range, the speed to get flank shots, a heavy bolter and the duality of the missile launcher; it has a lot of attractions since to use a MM at max effectiveness and the HF the Tornado had to get into range to be shot at and killed. Now they can move around dropping in firepower all over the place and requiring the dedication of high end AT weaponry to silence them.

Of course, vs a pod list, what else is the high end AT going to do besides popping pods and trying to avoid armor saves?
