So, this is a tournament that I hadn't even heard of until this past week. Perhaps I should pay more attention. :O Anyway, its now done and gone. Feast of Blades is supposed to be a "Trial by Fire" event where you actually have to qualify to be invited to the event, much like the Nova Open Invitational and the American Throne of Skulls was. It is a Nova-styled tournament, except there are 7 games over two days and 2.25 hrs per round. However, what I saw of the tables showed a MUCH better terrain setup than Nova Open had. And of course, the undefeated player wins the tournament and is named Champion. :)
This is where you get to hear me give public respect to the winner. Nick "Darkwynn" Rose took home the gold this weekend as Champion of this event. Considering there was supposedly a pretty good showing to this invite only tournament (I'm not sure which of the "big names" were there or how many total players), this is an big accomplishment. So I give him my congratulations and props.
I was kinda-sorta watching one of his games this morning (at ~10am) before I had to go to work and he was getting slaughtered. Playing an IG player I believe (maybe GK?), but I couldn't really tell. Anyway, from the sounds of it, he came back and won the match so that is pretty impressive.
I will admit, I have been rather harsh towards him in the past, as quite a bit of he has previously stated regarding the Black Templars have been things I've straight up disagreed with. But I have never doubted his skill as a general, nor his ability to use his Imperial Guard army. I'm willing to be the bigger man and say he is proving himself capable with his unique army with a couple GT wins in a short span of time (Da Boys and Feast of Blades). Its like he's trying to prove me wrong or something. Haha. I kid, I kid. Anyway, I think he's proven himself sufficiently enough now that he's has gained my respect in the BT realm (though, he already had that with his other armies). ;)
Does that mean I agree with him on some of his list building practices? No. But it proves what I've been saying about doing what you (the reader) want, and using me as a resource, not a bible. I am another perspective on our army, one that you may not agree with, but one that has experience to back up my views. Doesn't mean that is right path for you. Darkwynn is taking a list that breaks the mold to tournaments; bringing things that people aren't used to seeing and doing well with it. So the kudos to him.
Maybe when I go to Nova Open or WargamesCon next year, I'll get to play an exhibition match against him. I think it'd be fun. Anyway, that's my little blurp on that. Congrats again to Darkwynn. :D
