I hope its not a sign...

So yeah, I had finished the miniatures that I had previously been working on...plus another 4 more CCW initiates from another squad.  Then there was an unfortunate accident.  As per my policy, I spray Purity Seal on my minis to give them a little protection and that "dusty" appearance that fits with the theme of the basing.  Well, my sister was visiting and parked in the garage, not noticing the painted figures on the garage floor drying after such a spray (hence why my car wasn't in there).  Needless to say, one rubber tire later, and I'm down 8 painted miniatures.  As well as two weeks of work.

Fortunately, I have replacements...but now I'm not going to be able to finish my army in a high quality manner.  Its more likely that they're getting the "Nova Open Treatment" so that I have a 3-color standard.  Not that painting is required, but I'd like at least a SHOT at getting overall winner.  Ugh.  I'm a little annoyed to say the least.  I know accidents happen, but like an artist, I put my heart and soul into my painting.  Its why I'm never satisfied.  They turned out well and now...they are crushed pieces of plastic.

Wish me luck getting some decent amount of paint on these.  I need to get over my frustration hump and get back to the painting desk.

Ugh. That is why I set up a high spot on a shelf, but then I was more worried about the then six year old when I started.

That is aweful! Can you use the pieces as objectives? You could make some wounded marines out of them.

Unfortunately, the plastic was crushed and mutilated to the point where none of it could be salvaged. If I hadn't known what they were before they got ran over, you'd have a very difficult time trying to figure it out afterwards. :/

Its a sign your learning and making progress if you decide to continue, else you turn around and put them away for another year, and pick them up later.

Besides, broken pieces of plastic still have value. If not for templars, for chaos or orks or renegade guard.

I painted some ultra marines over a couple of days, like 5-6 hours on just a few figures using a kind of (paint as I go along mentality). The problem was the theme was not complete. In addition I was experimenting with them all as I went along with a variety of different washes and additives for those washes for something that would shade the indent the best way. I ended up with a bunch of figures that were messy, and far from the standard I wanted them. They were a series of incomplete steps, an unperfected formula that had come too far, and the sight of it was a tragedy to the time and energy I had put in.
It felt a waste, and looking at them only depressed me further.

I put them in the draw, and focused on something else. Eventually the new formula came, and I would not repeat the same mistakes ever again without perfection in the process of prototyping.

When using satin spray, if its been out in cold weather put it into a glass of warm water - otherwise you will get snow spray. It shoudl be sprayed at room temperature, at the proper distance.

Best test on different surfaces. You have to look at everything in phases, beta to alpha.

Laeroth I tried to add stuff to the painting section but cant.

I have uploaded a little bit on armour effects here, I will move them over once I can add them to IL.

The 3 pictures at the bottom (not mine) talk about painting armour effects that would be effective on templars.

90% of the effect on the techmarine on bike is pretty much black and silver, then the chrome effect on the exhaust is tin bitz with a boltgun dry brush. Painting lines for silver may take along time, you need to think beyond a brush. What is another tool that can apply lines like that faster than a brush?

Well, I certainly continued the work. But I didn't get them finished like I wanted (i.e. Crusader squads, Emperor's Champion). This accident kind of set back my plans a little bit, plus some work-related fatigue hitting. Fortunately, I have a backup EC. Its okay, because I want to really take my time on my Emperor's Champion...he's the center-piece of the army after all!

Dude ML that sucks lol. You know one time I was working on my Sword Brethren models, 3 at the time, I had been painting them for hours, and I had just gotten the cloaks/capes/shoulders done. It was pretty late so I decided to get some sleep. Well in my laziness I left my paints and models on the table.

I wake up to my 3 year old, whose hands are full of paint, I run downstairs and sure enough all three dudes were decimated with globs of red and blue paint all over them. Man I was PISSED but what can I say it was my fault for leaving the stuff out.

I still have the models, cuz once he is old enough, he is going to have to repaint them for me =)

I remember the thread you posted about this a while back on B&C. Even as the Emperor's chosen, unfortunate events occur. So I couldn't be angry for long. At least you have models after its said and done! lol! And you can use it as a way to get your kid into the best Chapter around. ;)

If only it had been the EC, he could've taken the hit and the tyre down with him...

Good luck getting those replacements in the field, and good luck at the tourney.

Sure - The EC has the armour of faith, he might have fared better!
