Implausible Nature Update: Couple of changes

For those of you whom are also bloggers, you know that websites/blogs constantly are in a state of evolution.  Whether its simply for aesthetic purposes, streamlining the flow of information, or attempt to improve the influx of readers, there are changes that occur over time.

I'm no stranger to this need to improve and freshen things up.  As such, you randomly see changes happen to Implausible Nature.  Many of which, I don't really talk about as they are simple changes.  Others are more drastic, so I'll usually mention them briefly here.  Today is one of those days.

Alright, there is a couple of things that I need to mention regarding Implausible Nature and how things are going to go forward from now on.  The first thing is that I simply no longer have the time to have predetermined updates for the website.  As each month goes by, I find myself falling more and more behind on my planned updates for the website.  Its usually something that I'm dealing with offline.  Other times, its something online that takes up quite a bit of my attention (i.e. new BT FAQ).  This leads to disappointed readers when I am unable to put out these updates as planned.

So from now on, there will not be an upcoming update list on the Home Page.  Instead, as I make updates or important blog posts, I'll reference them under the "What's New This Month" section.  This might mean there is few updates listed there each month, but it could also mean that there are many worthwhile things of note that month.  Just depends.  By doing this, readers will get a more consistent stream of content throughout the month.

In addition to this relatively small change, I am hoping to make videos a bigger part of the website.  In a previous post, I mentioned that I recently purchased a webcam and that I would be posting up video battle reports with it.  Not sure on how frequent this will be, but they provide players with an improved view of the game being played.  This allows for a much more involved learning process.  There will also be more videos as a part of IN as a whole, though I'm not sure how to integrate them yet.  The videos would probably be tactics based, but we'll see on that.

Lastly, I'm going to be cleaning up the Black Templars 101 guide over the next few months to freshen it up a bit based on feedback from readers.  There are a few key things missing from there, as well as some topic material that needs expansion.  In addition, several pages aren't laid out quite a well as I would like, so I'm going to go in and fix those up a bit.  Don't worry, none of the content will go down.  It may move, however, so if you can't find something after looking for a bit, just email me.

Next up, a quick update on things.  First, I've decided that I won't do a review of Fritz's tactica video and PDF.  I think that it would present me as a pompous asshat.  Which is what I'm trying to avoid.  Just know that I disagree with much of what is said in it.  His tactica is now quite outdated as per the new FAQ, so most players should be able to see the wrong without me pointing it out.  However, with that being said, I have plans for his vids/PDF.  Along with several other "disapproved" tactical articles.  Stay tuned.  ;)

Also, I'm not going to be doing a "How To" on my mechanized all-comers list yet.  While you can win with the list that I use, its not really competitive.  And I don't really want to spend the time and effort explaining an army that won't win consistently in tournaments.  This also undercuts what I'm trying to do with Implausible Nature, so its better if I don't do it.  Don't run away crying yet though, as I'm currently tweaking and working on a list that will fulfill this "niche".  When I'm happy with the list, I'll put out the corresponding "How To" article to accompany it.  There are still bugs to work out yet.

Alright, there are some more stuff, but I'm not ready to unveil those items yet.  So I'm going to drag my ass outside and shovel the 18" of snow we just got here in Minnesota.  :/

I know some of you were looking forward to that "How To" article, so I must apologize. I just didn't feel good about publishing it based on a list that wasn't as fine tuned and optimized as it could have been.

With that being said, it doesn't mean I don't like using that list. Its quite fun and I do pretty well with it. The fact remains, tournament tuned lists would probably do a number on mine without making some changes to it. Which I'm currently working on.

In addition, I'm strongly considering bringing my Heavy Mech list to 'Ard Boys this year. Its simply not competitive against balanced lists, but it is often times something that people do not build for (i.e. lack of melta, speed bumps). I think it'll be a good way to cull some of the bad lists from the Qualifiers/Semifinals.

ML not gonna lie man, I used the mech list you had posted up here and have had a lot of success with it. With the addition of the typhoon speeders it filled the only gap the list really had, (long ranged high str MOBILE firepower).

The predators eat anything av 10-12 and if the meltas from the squads/LRC are used properly, av 13-14 doest stand a chance either.

Only thing I seem to have trouble with is the deployment phase, I always try to give all of my predators LOS to everything, only problem I see with this is they usually end up being grouped together and become vulnerable to outflanking assaulters. So is it better to just give all 3 partial line of sight so that as a group they cover board? This way they remain seperated and can't really be multi assaulted down.

Also, this sort of exposes the side armor of the units, any tip to counter this? Deploy near terrain maybe? I dunno, ur tips would be appreciated.
