Update: "Crusade in 61 Days"

Because the BT community had a huge bomb dropped on us in the form of a new FAQ, which pretty much gave us options we never had...the painting project is being put on hold until the 20th of January.  I'm going to add a week to the end of this project date to account for this.

There are a couple reasons for this.  First and foremost, Implausible Nature needs to be updated with the current rules and information that resulted from the FAQ release.  Ensuring accurate tactics, army lists, and information is more important that getting my army painted, especially with the growing number of people who are daily readers of the website.  Helping others succeed with the Black Templars is the number one goal of IN, so I think painting can wait a few days.

Second, the new FAQ has made my previous gunline army obsolete.  While I've finished updating the list itself, I don't have the models necessary to complete the army.  I have to acquire a box of tactical terminators, as well as bits for another cyclone missile launcher.  In addition, I need to buy another three Land Speeders, as I didn't think I was ever going to use the Typhoon pattern...but since GW neglected to up the price of the newly updated weapon rules, its going into pretty much all my lists.  :D

Finally, I'm as excited as everyone else about this new FAQ.  That means I want to play around and try to come up with new lists myself.  If I have to sit here and paint all day, then I can't do that.  So ya'll are going to have to understand.  :)

Well, I just finished "adjusting" my multiple 1k BT pod lists to account for no Deathwind ML, not sure where I'm going to go from there.

Personally, without more figs, right this minute, I'm limited on what I can swap around and I'm still planning on playing in two weeks with a 1k list. Ahhh, I'll probably just tag in a Castellan to lead one of the Crusader squads since putting in a LS Typhoon or four messes with my models on hand when balancing the list.

Here is what I came up with, current list:
EC-AACNMTO
1x Crusader (5/1)melta
2x Crusader (5/2)melta + PF
2x DN MM/HF
5x Pods with Deathwinds

Dropping the Deathwinds gives an extra 100 points to spend.

Add a Neo to the first Crusader squad.
Turn one DN into a Venerable/Tank Hunter and reducing the MM to Assault Cannon. 30 points here.

Add 1x LS Typhoon for 70 points.

I had some other ideas, but I'm running up against model limits as well as time.

In your case, I think keeping the Neophyte off the first unit so that you can keep the MM is better imo. As it is, you are dangerously thin in the AT department otherwise. But other than that, I think it'll make for some good changes.

Aye, real thin. But losing the Deathwinds cut into a lot of my potential close support firepower. Was trying to use the assault cannon swap to get more shots -> more chances to glance/pen and the only thing I cannot touch at all is an AV14, except if I happen to glance it, with rending I automatically penetrate.

Actually, the issue is that way too much cheap close range firepower is gone. I need to adjust all of my lists more since I was working in the mindset of "SLAM" -> instant hardpoint. Not a real hard one, but enough of one to require some resource diversion in multiple places.

The other option I built while on the road today was drop one DN, go with 3x LS-Typhoons, upgrade the last DN to Ven Tank Hunter, TLLC/HF, EA (I forgot EA on all of those). That gives 4 of my 7 drop units a 48" range, which should improve my list on the mobility and firepower fronts. Depending on the board and terrain, Speeders are very viable for playing hop and pop games without deepstriking, even if they simply zip around hiding the first turn waiting for the pods to fall.
