What to talk about?

Originally, I was going to make a blog post about why I play the Black Templars and it was going strong.  Unfortunately, I accidentally hit the "back" button on the browser so the post got eaten.  I'm not particularly in the mood to go back and rewrite it at the moment.  lol!

I do want to talk about something else though.  Something that perhaps some of you might be able to assist me with.  I'm not a low points BT player.  Usually when I have played at these points levels, its because no one wants to play a larger game or only have a limited amount of time to do it.  The tournaments here are played at 2000 points, as are most of the ones around the United States.  So that is what I generally play.

Because of this, I'm forced to play-test smaller point army lists.  Its a task that is relatively interesting and fun to me.  As you all know, I want to do an article on how I'd build an escalation league Black Templars army.  But I'm at a loss to where to start.  I know eventually I'd want to have my gunline army at 2000 points.  However, I'm thinking that some CC units would be good at the lower end of the spectrum.  I play-tested a hybrid CC/gunline list this past Monday, but it performed to sub-par standards, as I suspected it might.

So I want to do two things.  First, I want to develop a functioning and competitive escalation league list starting at 500 points, that will eventually develop into my gunline list with minimal extra purchases (theoretical, since I already own everything I would need).  The second, I want to create both a 500 point list, 750, and a 1000 point list that is also competitive in the event that it is needed.  Then I can actually discuss why it works at that points level and what makes it good.  The type of list could take any form, from CC-oriented, Drop Pods, gunline, or maybe even Black Tide if the army is balanced enough.

This is where you guys/gals come in.  If you feel confident in your 500, 750, or 1000 point list, send them my way and I might feature them here on IN if I like the list.  Who knows, I might even adopt it for my personal use.  Remember, I'll keep your emails anonymous unless you say that you don't mind me using names.  :)

By the way, on a side note:  I'm growing frustrated at my Emperor's Champion ~25% wound rate.  lol!  It seems when I get 3 hits and only need 2's to wound, I always roll two 1's.  Guaranteed.  Haha.  I think my luck needs to improve a bit with Lysanthir.  :D

Does the list have to grow by 250 each round or can you use entirely different lists (say mech at 250, foot at 500, pod at 750, etc.)?

I would prefer a list that grows in the same archetype. This list would grow by 500 points each time. Still working on this one. Playtesting is showing me some things don't work so well. lol.

The other lists (500, 750, 1000) can be separate archetypes if you want. Since they are stand alone lists. :D

500 was interesting.

HQ - Castellan BP/CCW, Orb
Troops
5/1 in a Razorback
5/0 in a Razorback
Dakka Pred (AC/HB) Smoke

You could swap the Neo for a melta in the one squad, but at 500, I don't think you'd be seeing much AV14, best shot I know would be a WH force with 2x Inq Storm Trooper squads (50 pts min each) and a Inq Lord.

Crusaders are for CC with the vehicles handling the mass killings with their Heavy Bolters.

Interesting. I think it deserves its own blog post! :D

But I agree. 500 points is extremely limiting, so you really need to decide how you're going to play the army and go fully in that direction.

Somebody knew what they were doing when they said 750 points before requiring the EC. This might not be great, but try finding the 63 points to turn that Castellan into an EC.

You do know I have a flock of 1k pod lists in the B&C BT Army List forum?

I'll try to get back with some more ideas for you, but...Christmas is coming and the sister and greatnephew will be here Friday, so it will be as I can.

I did notice a bunch of your lists in the Army List forum. But to be completely honest, I don't go in there all that often. Weirdly enough, I feel obligated to help people correct issues in their lists if I notice them, so I don't go in there is only a limited amount of time I have free to make comments.

Yeah, I know what you mean about Christmas. Take your time, no rush. Busy around here as well. :O

That was a shotgun of 1k pod lists, I think we can all find a nit to pick with each of them, but I think each had some advantages and disadvantages.

I did try to leave the worst of the insanity off I think.

Nah, I was making a general statement. Some lists by new players who say they want to make tourney lists, have tremendous problems and it would take significant time to write out why their choices don't make for a competitive list. While I could easily say: "Hey. Go to Implausible Nature and you'll see why there are problems.", that often isn't good enough.

So I make the trip to that section of the forum only like once every week or so. Plausible deniability. As much as I love helping everyone (that's the whole reason for IN to exist), I simply do not have the time to assist everyone right away...and I feel obligated to do so if I see it in the army list section.

So, that was not a knock on you at all. I was not referring to your lists specifically. Just making a general statement. :)
