Yes! I'm not alone up here!

This post is more of a personal nature.  So feel free to ignore it if you want, nothing really tactical in this one.  ;)

Basically, I felt the need to celebrate the fact that I found a gaming store here.  It was hidden and didn't exist the last time I lived in the area, so I hadn't realized it opened up.  Its a smaller store (from what I learned from their Facebook/website), with not a whole lot of extra room for tournaments and such, but they seem to focus more on the MTG crowd than the tabletop stuff.  It doesn't matter.  A store exists that carries Warhammer 40k stuff.  I know there are players up here, so if I'm able to get a few of them here for some games, I'll be a happy camper.  I'll check the place out tomorrow and see what's up.  I'm pretty excited.  :D

Laeroth - you live in the Twin Cities, correct? You're probably talking about Phantasy Hobbies then, I take it.

Dunno if you ever travel round the cities, but have you ever hit up places more near downtown - ala Fantasy Flight Games, Tower Games, etc? I'm a resident BT player myself, and I often hit up the tournaments around here too. Might be fun to do a BT vs BT game sometime - we have somewhat different methods of running BT.

Its not about the quantity of gamers but about the quality of your interactions.

Sounds good, look forwards to some battle reports!

@ Fxeni

Unfortunately, the Twin Cities is where I moved FROM, not to. Had plenty of games down there. :(

I moved back to my hometown of East Grand Forks, Minnesota. Grand Forks is right across the river and used to have the Hobbytown USA that was the LGS. It was also where I first started playing 40k, but alas, it has closed. But I did find another store, so we'll see how that goes.

Back in the Cities, I played at Misty Mountain Games since I lived in the Southern suburbs. I went up to Tower Games a couple of times, but the environment wasn't very appealing to me (nor were there any players). Not to mention the long drive. Doesn't mean its not a good store, I just preferred Misty.

I didn't get a chance to check out Fantasy Flight Games or Phantasy Hobbies. I did play occasionally at The Source, but again, it was kind of a long drive from Shakopee.

Where is your normal store of playing? If I'm back down that way (various reasons come to mind), I can see about hitting one of the stores up. :)

@ Lucion

Got to find the players first. I know they exist, as I used to play with them (and the merchandise always sold at Hobbytown). But I hope that several of the players already show up to this store. If so, I can work up from there with advertising if needed.

The University of North Dakota helps drive up the population during the school year, so I'm sure SOME of those people play 40k. :D

I'm usually at FFG. Hit up my e-mail if you ever decide to drop by.

You guys are up by the FFG? Heh, lucky for me I'm not. They are smoking too much of what GW is giving them and I'd feel the urge to crawl down someone's throat about one of their (non-GW) games.

Weird War II game (Dust Tactics) and as far as I can tell, instead of allowing use of any of the half dozen high quality model companies for the "normal" troops, they look like they want to reinvent the wheel and make players wait for their models.

Bah, they should publish and sell the data cards and if you want to run a five Sherman platoon, then you need five cards as well as five scale models. They still make money.

That was an odd off topic rant. Dunno what FFG you have been going to, but I've had nothing but pleasant experiences there.

FFG = Fantasy Flight Games, the game publisher, which is located in MN. I'm assuming that your FFG is the storefront part of the operation. Incorrect?

@ Algesan

Yes, the FFG we're referring to is their Event center in Roseville, MN.

I cannot really comment on what you're saying since I've never been there. But what I've heard from those around the Twin Cities is that its an excellent venue. It was just unrealistic for me to travel up there without reason when I had a game store I was happy with pretty much right next to me. :/

I'd hope it is a great place to play and probably is. Rant was over their corporate policy, which reminds me too much of GW in the case of Dust Tactics.
