You saw it here first. The "Venomwing" Dark Eldar army list!

Here is the list that I've been working on this evening.  I've lovingly dubbed it "Venomwing".  Check it out under the "Read More" cut.  Enjoy!  :D

HQ
* Archon w/ Splinter Pistol, Agonizer, and Shadowfield.  [110]

ELITES
* Incubi (5x) w/ Klavex.  Mounted in a Raider w/ Flickerfield. [180]
* Incubi (5x) w/ Klavex.  Mounted in a Raider w/ Flickerfield. [180]
* Incubi (5x) w/ Klavex.  Mounted in a Raider w/ Flickerfield. [180]

TROOPS

* Warriors (5x) w/ Blaster.  Mounted in a Venom w/ 2x Splinter Cannons.  [125]

* Warriors (5x) w/ Blaster.  Mounted in a Venom w/ 2x Splinter Cannons.  [125]

FAST ATTACK
* Scourges (5x) w/ 2x Heat Lances.  [134]

HEAVY SUPPORT
* Razorwing Fighter w/ Flickerfield.  [155]
* Razorwing Fighter w/ Flickerfield.  [155]
* Razorwing Fighter w/ Flickerfield.  [155]

Total:  [1999]

The list works like so:  Deploy as far forward as you can if you have first turn.  Rush all of the Raiders/Venoms forward to get in blaster range.  Then follow the basic tactics I'll mention in a second.

If you think your opponent will reserve their army, take the 2nd turn (if you have the choice) and deploy accordingly.  Likewise, if you simply have the second turn, you'll need to deploy defensively to prevent too many losses from fire.

Obviously, the goal is to fire away with your the Dark Lances and Warrior's Blasters to get everyone out of transports.  Then smoke the infantry with Monoscythe Missiles from the Razorwing Fighters and all the Venom's Splinter cannon shots.  You also have Scourges with two Heat Lances for high AV targets.

Once there aren't very many transports left on the board, you have lots and lots of poison shots to demolish your opponent.  This is a very fragile list (but everything has Flickerfields) that relies almost entirely on the shooting phase to win.  You do have the Incubi, but they won't be of much use if you haven't opened up any vehicles.  Every unit has duality and can easily stall an enemy CC unit in combat if the need arises.

6 Blasters, 2 Heat Lances, 9 Dark Lances, 12 Splinter Cannons (72 poisons shots), and 12 Monoscythe Missiles.  Plus, plenty of splinter rifle shots.  Lots of death indeed.  Have fun!  :D

Honestly, seems decent, but your Incubi aren't really doing anything for me. You can't lock up deathstars and you're completely hosed against anybody who builds an army that abuses cover (for example, the Rhinos you'll inevitably bust) as you have no units capable of forcing them out as your Incubi cannot get nades. Furthermore, dropping your Archon for the Duke and upping one of your Warrior units to being a full Raider squad would benefit your list greatly.

I like the concept,and building this list is a great excercise to see what can be done, but on the table the list doesnt seem to take advantage of many of the Dark Eldar powers and abilities. Power through Pain, etc. An alpha strike list should at least put some points into trying to go first. We now have the perfect characters for this stuff.

Put this list on the table against what you think is it's worse case scenario. See how it does.

Thanks for the comments! The list above is the 2nd version of this type of list. It is still in the very early planning/playtesting stages. Here is the first version (lost 1st game, won the next 3):

HQ
* Duke Sliscus. [150]

ELITES
* Kabalite Trueborn (4x) w/ 2x Blasters and 1x Shard Carbine. Mounted in a Venom w/ 2x Splinter Cannons. [148]
* Kabalite Trueborn (5x) w/ 2x Blasters and 1x Shard Carbine. Mounted in a Venom w/ 2x Splinter Cannons. [160]

TROOPS

* Warriors (5x) w/ Blaster. Mounted in a Venom w/ 2x Splinter Cannons. [125]

FAST ATTACK
* Scourges (5x) w/ 2x Heat Lances. [134]

HEAVY SUPPORT
* Razorwing Fighter w/ Flickerfield and Nightshields. [165]
* Razorwing Fighter w/ Flickerfield and Nightshields. [165]
* Razorwing Fighter w/ Flickerfield and Nightshields. [165]

Total: [1997]

I found that the first list lacked some efficiencies and AT power, otherwise it packed a huge ass punch. PtP is irrelevant in this type of list, as it concentrates on blasting your opponent off the board before they can even get to the point of hitting you back.

As for trying to go first. I thought about that, and then I realized what would happen if I took an Alpha Strike list and put a SC in that helped ensure I had the first turn. Guess what would happen? My opponent would put their army in reserve, neutralizing my Alpha Strike. That is bad news against well over half of the competitive builds out there. Still, if they do, they WILL piece meal in.

I'm trying to discover the best way to build a Venom Alpha Strike list before I move onto the other type of builds (i.e. Duke/Hellion lists, Wych lists, Haemonculus lists, etc). Its a work in progress. I've got time, as does everyone else playing.

Thanks again for commenting and hopefully ya'll will check in every so often to see what's new. :)

Perhaps try taking 3 Truborn with 2 dark lances in a venom. Just keep it stationary to fire them (or change to raider).

With all the vehicles on the list be somewhat survivable.

Mark, I like that idea. Thanks for it. You'll see an updated version of the "Venomwing" in a couple minutes. :)

Hi there,
i like your approach to the list... but i think that in your list should be better put 3 ravager in place of razorwings cause they cost less and they are very powerfull tank killer, another good unit is 4 trueborn with 4 blasters on a venom wisth 2 splinter cannon, so u'll have a unit that can destroy tanks and units, lastly if u use sliscus try putting him in a unit with 6 trueborn with shard carabine, 2 trueborn with splinter cannon a dracon with blaster pistol on a raider, i've tried it and it is amazing...

Hello Agarosh!

Well, seems this version of the list is popping up quite frequently. I'm assuming from Dark Eldar @Blogspot. A couple of notes:

1) The newest version of the "Venomwing" is posted at http://www.implausiblenature.net/1/post/2010/10/venomwing-v30.html

2) I don't care for the 4 Blaster Trueborn squad in a Venom, to be honest. The points cost is prohibitive and they are quite easy to neutralize. I've found that 3 Blaster Trueborn is definitely sufficient for whatever you need.

3) The "Venomwing" list relies on putting out massive shot amounts to effectively cripple your opponent early game. Unfortunately, the Ravager simply does not provide me with any anti-infantry power once my enemy's vehicles/transports are destroyed. The Razorwing does. Plus, against infantry heavy armies such as Tyranids, the Monoscythe Missiles wreck havoc.

With that being said, I do value the Ravager's usefulness. Just not in this type of list. I use them in my other style of list though. ;)

Thanks for commenting! Hope to see you back soon!
